GAS-FIRED GENERATION

Most of our electricity today is created at gas-fired power stations. The gas provides a stable and consistent source of fuel for the engines and this means that base-load electricity can be generated on a consistent and guaranteed basis.

Base-load power is supplied on a regular basis, but gas powered turbines can also offer a “peaking” service. Typically these peaking systems are kept in standby mode, and are turned on to help balance the fluctuating requirements of the grid. If the gas powered turbines are linked up with a battery storage system, it would be feasible to utilise the electricity generated by the turbines to keep the batteries at full capacity which in turn will be used to supply peak demand electricity when required.
